towards paradise

What is ‘in paradise’? Where is it and who are we ‘in paradise’? We find the idea of ‘paradise’ in all world religions. In Christian occidental tales, paradise means something like ‘enclosed space’ or ‘garden’, which was created by God on earth. It marks the place where man found his first home. His expulsion transformed paradise into a place of longing. Restlessness as a defining attitude to life and current circumstances are in turn ‘opposed to paradise’ today. Wanting to escape from everything, to hurry ‘towards paradise’, to a place where one can be enraptured, in a counter-world, often also touches us as wishful thinking.
wishful thinking. The most important basic needs are at play here. In its course towards new waters, sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung - Wir stiften Zukunft, the municipal gallery ‘Fähre’ finds its artistic focal point in the open question of paradise.
the open question of paradise. It was provoked by a selection of striking current positions in dance, film, photography, installation, painting and cyanotype, which in recent years have been dedicated to the field of tension between man, body, nature, existence and technology.
