“My portraits are bridges—between countries, people, and quiet emotions. I use humour and colour to honour the poetry of daily life and the complexity of identity.”
Rocío Navarro (Chihuahua, México, 1991) is a Mexican artist currently living and working in France. Her artistic practice focuses on painting, particularly vivid and emotionally resonant portraits that explore the subtleties of everyday life lived between two nations.
With a distinctive visual language of colour blocks and saturated hues, Rocío captures intimate moments of stillness and quiet determination. Her subjects—often framed by houseplants, furniture, or everyday objects—inhabit domestic and familiar spaces. These elements act as cultural markers and narrative clues, subtly revealing themes of belonging, nostalgia, and migration.
Her work often incorporates humour and lightness, transforming the ordinary into something meaningful. Through carefully staged scenes and gentle but assertive gazes, Rocío highlights the emotional depth in mundane situations. Her paintings evoke a sense of presence and reflection, offering viewers a space to consider cultural duality, gendered routines, and the beauty of in-between spaces.
Navigating her own identity as a Mexican woman living in Europe, Rocío’s work becomes a vibrant exploration of cultural hybridity. She builds a bridge between personal memory and shared experience, where the aesthetic of colour and the stillness of gesture reveal deep emotional landscapes.
Rocío Navarro's paintings celebrate the resilience of the everyday, inviting us to slow down and find significance in the seemingly insignificant.
